INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE

INDOOR AIR QUALITY TESTING:

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TESTIndoor air quality (IAQ) issues typically result from interactions between building materials and furnishings, equipment or processes within the building, climate, and building occupants. IAQ problems may arise from one or more of the following causes:
  • Indoor environment - inadequate temperature, humidity, lighting, excessive noise;
  • Indoor air contaminants - chemicals, dusts, molds or fungi, bacteria, gases, organic vapors, and odors;
  • Insufficient air exchanges or ventilation.
Fulco Environmental Inc. staff has conducted indoor air quality test programs for various volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), oil mist, particulates (respirable and inhaleable), comfort parameters (relative humidity, carbon monoxide, temperature, oxygen, etc.), and inorganics (weld fume and lead) following current National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) methods and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. All test programs are usually conducted as part of an investigation or due diligence on behalf of industry to assess the air quality within there facility.

INDOOR NOISE TESTING:

Long term exposure to high levels of noise can cause short and long term problems for any person exposed to elevated noise levels.
Noise exposure limits for Ontario workers in industrial facilities were reduced from 90 dBA over an 8-hour duration to a time-weighted average of 85 dBA with a 3 dB exchange rate. Section 139 of the Industrial Establishments Regulation (Regulation 851) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act outlines the new noise requirements.

These changes to Ontario’s noise exposure limits allow for a more accurate way to measure personal noise exposure and are intended to help prevent hearing loss, short, and long term effects. All workplaces in Ontario are covered by the Regulations.

Fulco Environmental Inc. staff has conducted several indoor noise test programs for employee exposure levels following current Ministry of Labour regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Test programs are usually conducted as part of an investigation or due diligence on behalf of industry to assess the noise levels on behalf of facility employees and to determine the areas that require hearing protection and the appropriate type of hearing protection based on the results of a noise study.
